Our Story
This website began as a passion project by our founder, Mary, who is a dedicated paraclimber. Mary recognised a significant barrier in the sport - essential accessibility information was difficult or impossible to find, forcing many disabled climbers to phone ahead or simply risk arriving at a wall only to find it unsuitable. The climbing may be accessible, but the information certainly wasn't.
In early 2024, after gaining increased attention as a vital community resource, she realised the mission was bigger than one person. In October 2024 we migrated to a Community Interest Company (CIC) headed by a team of passionate directors. We chose the CIC structure because it allows us to focus on our primary goal: providing a centralised data platform for the climbing community. This model allows us to grow, seek support, and formalise our work. We are fundamentally here to serve the community by tackling the information gap.
The strength of Access to Climb lies in the people behind it. Our director team is driven by personal experience with disability and passion for climbing, ensuring that accessibility is not an afterthought but the foundation of everything we do.
Our Mission
To eliminate information barriers to climbing and make the sport accessible to everyone. We exist to provide the UK climbing community with the central, up to date, and comprehensive accessibility information needed to participate with confidence.
Our Vision
To become the go to place for accessibility information, ensuring that every climber, regardless of ability, has a clear route to the wall and can fully experience the joy and challenge of climbing.
We believe the physical and mental rewards of climbing belong to all, and that the option to participate should be unconditional.
